April 20, 2008 - Beginning of vertical with the Grai ...

The day promises to be really good ... the clouds coming on the horizon during the approach (a pleasant half hour walk, part, on a path along the side slopes of Val Tanaro) make us realize that the water that we will see (and be with us ... ^ _ ^) is not the only cave in the day ... alas ...

arrive at the entrance Grai ... the cave is very different from the veins after a short and easy path from the cave entrance (and after dressing a lot less embarrassing than other times ^ _ ^) we find the first evidence, "vertical" in the dark after the gym last week: the first section gives a little concern about the "old timers" like us ... ^ _ ^, it is a slope not particularly challenging, even if a little 'slippery (we already have a taste of the moisture content that will accompany us for the next 7-8 hours ...), with fairly easy footholds for our tired and numb limbs.

arrive in a comfortable small terrace we ourselves with the real test: twenty feet (abundant ... when there are suspended in the air seem to me at least 200-300 ... but that's another story, called "subjectivity of measures" ... ^ _ ^), partly in a vacuum, partly to shift between a ledge of rock and the aforementioned vacuum (this step is on the rise, at least for myself, one of the most demanding of the whole day ...). After this step, the rest is 'na walk with a journey quite comfortable, and a final jump of 5 - 6 meters that opens the view (as far as possible, given the dark ...) on a huge living room (70x40 feet, what the experts tell me), really wonderful.

Apart from the athletic and technical skill required by the steps into the void (and the slope, I fear having to absorb pretty well ... even without the providential Laura I'd still be there trying to issarmi over the rocks, and swaying as salami ... me miserable, wretched me ...) what impressed me most in this cave will be really nice especially deviations that have brought us, after a narrow easy easy hike and a very slippery and muddy, and discover much more than glimpses of the beautiful, dotted with caves angel hair (do you remember those future advances of stalactites, delicate and ethereal Filini crystallized? Wonderful ...) and a large concreted room takes your breath away ... not to mention the newly named "Forest of cazzilli" but that's another story, right Sylvia?!

Then, after these massive samples of poetry and delicacy, the rude awakening: the rise (with my announced impasse) and return the car in the rain, torrential at times ... another stage has been completed, and are increasingly happy to have made this choice ... I will be my cassate emeritus, will find it hard, maybe make a fool of me (by the way, sooner or later I will explain the origin of my nickname caving, "Manu" ... but that's another story ... but ^_^), be able to enter into communion with the truly incomparable natural wonders, and above all I can do it together with a large bunch of crazy lunatics ... see you next!
